Here are some questions customers frequently ask about Northwest's boarding procedures:
If you have your boarding pass it is not necessary to check in again with the Northwest agent at the departure gate for domestic U.S. travel. For international flights, you will have to see the gate agent if you have not had your International documentation validated. When boarding your flight, please wait until your row number is called and then proceed promptly to the boarding door.
Northwest will offer incentives for volunteers who agree to give up their seats and travel on another flight. In the very infrequent situation where there aren't enough volunteers, Northwest determines who will retain their seats based on time of check-in, and compensates and re-accommodates those affected customers who are "involuntarily" denied boarding according to the Department of Transportation guidelines as follows:
