Effective April 9, 2008, China airport authorities have set new guidelines on the carriage of liquids, aerosols and gels as well as lighters and matches on passengers and in passengers' carry-on luggage.
Liquids, Aerosols, Gels
Chinese authorities have begun to enforce a zero tolerance policy in regards to allowing liquids, aerosols, and gels through the security checkpoint and onto aircraft departing Beijing (PEK). This ruling prevents passengers from bringing liquids, aerosols or gels (no matter how small the quantity) on board in their carry-on luggage. This ruling affects all flights departing Beijing (PEK) Capital International Airport.
The TSA 3-1-1 policy (3.4 ounces of liquids, aerosols or gels per container - in 1 see-through plastic quart-size bag – for 1 person) will continue to be strictly enforced in other Chinese airports to include Guangzhou (CAN), Shanghai (PVG), and Hong Kong (HKG).
Lighters and Matches
Also, Chinese authorities have begun to enforce a zero tolerance policy in regards to allowing lighters and matches of any type onto the aircraft. Lighters and matches are prohibited from carriage on a passenger and crew or in their carry-on luggage. This ruling affects all flights departing within China with the exception of Hong Kong (HKG).
